Swimming Training School relaunched at Serge Alfred Pool

The swimming training school at the Serge Alfred swimming pool in Beau Bassin was officially relaunched, yesterday, as part of ongoing efforts to promote youth participation in sports and enhance water safety awareness. The programme aims to support young swimmers aged between 7 and 17 through three progressive learning levels, from Level 1 to Level 3, with training adapted to each participant’s abilities.

Speaking at the event, the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Mrs Dhanita Ramdharee, highlighted that the relaunch of swimming training schools marks an important step in promoting sports nationwide. She stressed the importance of sports in fostering children’s well-being, discipline, and safety, while highlighting that swimming is an essential life skill for island residents.

Mrs Ramdharee reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to creating more opportunities and access to sports activities across the country through secure facilities and structured coaching. She also noted that these training schools could help identify promising athletes capable of representing Mauritius internationally in the future.

The swimming training programme will be offered at four locations: the Serge Alfred swimming pool in Beau Bassin, Le Pavillon in Quatre Bornes, as well as the Mare d’Albert and Rivière du Rempart sports complexes.

Participants will benefit from a preferential fee of Rs 500 per level, which includes 24 training sessions of approximately 45 to 50 minutes each.
