Dragon Boat races and cultural festivities set for June in Mauritius
Mauritius is gearing up for the Dragon Boat Festival which will take place on the 14 June 2026 at Le Caudan Waterfront in Port Louis. A traditional Chinese cultural festival, it is celebrated annually to commemorate the life and patriotism of the ancient Chinese poet and statesman Qu Yuan.
This vibrant cultural and sporting event will be organised jointly by the Ministry of Arts and Culture in collaboration with the Dragon and Lion Dance Federation, the Chinese Speaking Union and Le Caudan Development Ltd.
The Dragon Boat Festival 2026 will comprise a dragon boat race involving 10 teams, including one from Rodrigues. The programme will also feature a traditional défilé of lions and dragons by the Dragon and Lion Dance Federation, starting from the Port Louis Waterfront to Le Caudan Waterfront. The festivities will culminate with a cultural programme by local artists.

Dragon Boat races constituting the central feature of the festival, have over the years become an internationally recognised cultural and sporting activity, bringing together communities through teamwork and cultural exchange.
