Learn AI School Innovation Challenge 2026: President Gokhool chairs stakeholders’ meeting
In the context of the 2nd edition of the Learn AI School Innovation Challenge 2026, a competition-based training for students of Grades 10 and 12, a stakeholder’s meeting was chaired yesterday by the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Dharam Gokhool, at the State House in Réduit.
This Innovation Challenge is an initiative of Dayforce, DoraCrea and Mauritius Telecom in collaboration with the Office of the President, the Ministry of Education and Human Resource, and the Ministry of Information, Communication and Innovation. It aims to empower students to propose Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven solutions to national challenges. A total of 59 schools and 91 projects were registered for the edition.
In his address, President Gokhool highlighted that the meeting aimed to address existing shortcomings and chart the way forward for the successful running of the competition. He pointed out that the Government Programme 2025-2029 lays strong emphasis on digital transformation, innovation, and the modernisation of public institutions and services. The pace of technological advancement, he stated, requires close collaboration and innovation between public institutions, industry leaders, educators, researchers, innovators and private sector.
In this regard, he indicated that the Ministry of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation is actively advancing initiatives related to national AI strategies and broader digital transformation frameworks that will help shape the future digital landscape of Mauritius. The Learn-AI Innovation Challenge, he noted, contributes to the development of a national innovation ecosystem that empowers the youth and prepares Mauritius for the opportunities and challenges of the future.
President Gokhool further emphasised that Mauritius must position itself as a consumer of emerging technologies and a responsible contributor to ethical, inclusive, and human-centred AI development within the region and beyond.
