CCA President discusses preparations for US-Africa Business Summit with Prime Minister
The President and Chief Executive Officer of the Corporate Council on Africa (CCA), Mrs Florizelle Liser, paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, today at the New Treasury Building in Port Louis, as part of preparations for the upcoming US-Africa Business Summit, scheduled to be held in Mauritius from 26 to 29 July 2026.
In a statement following the meeting, Mrs Liser highlighted that the Summit will convene business leaders, policymakers, investors, senior government officials, CEOs and Senior Executives from Africa and the USA to discuss opportunities for economic collaboration and investment across the African continent. She indicated that several Heads of State, Prime Ministers, Ministers, and high-level US delegations are expected to participate in the event.
Mrs Liser underscored that Mauritius was selected to host the major event, noting that it will provide an important platform to showcase the country’s economic success, its position as a major financial platform, and the progress achieved under strong leadership, supported by a sound financial services sector and a solid reputation as a gateway for investment into Africa.
The Summit, she indicated, will offer Mauritius an opportunity to present its economic transformation and success story to international stakeholders, including representatives from the African Development Bank, the World Bank and the International Finance Corporation.
The CCA President further pointed out that the Summit is expected to generate new business and investment opportunities between African and US companies,
while also delivering tangible benefits to the local economy, particularly in the tourism and hospitality sectors.
Mrs Liser recalled that last year’s Summit, held in Angola, primarily focused on oil, gas and infrastructure, while this year’s edition in Mauritius will place greater emphasis on financial services and other emerging sectors. She also stressed the importance of the African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA), stating that discussions during the Summit will advocate for its extension by a further 10 years in order to strengthen trade and economic relations between Africa and the United States.
Mrs Florizelle Liser is the first woman to lead the CCA since its establishment in 1993. She has extensive experience in international trade and U.S.-Africa economic relations, having served as Assistant U.S. Trade Representative for Africa from 2003 to 2016, where she oversaw trade and investment policy with 49 sub-Saharan African countries and implementation of the AGOA.
Over her career, she has also held senior positions in the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative and the U.S. Department of Transportation. In addition, Mrs Liser has served on several advisory and leadership bodies, including the Export-Import Bank of the United States’ Sub-Saharan Africa Advisory Committee, the Millennium Challenge Corporation Advisory Council, and Women in International Trade.
