Junior Minister Damry engages with bakery owners ahead of 2026-2027 Budget
As part of pre-budget consultations ahead of the 2026-2027 Budget, the Junior Minister of Finance, Mr Dhaneshwar Damry, received today in Port Louis, representatives of the Association des Propriétaires de Boulangeries.
In a statement following the meeting, the Association’s President, Mr Nasser Moraby, stated that several issues were raised. They include challenges in recruiting manpower, the recent increase in electricity tariffs and its effect its on the pricing of bread, and the need to review the VAT Registration threshold which has been reduced from Rs 6 million to Rs 3 million.
Mr Moraby noted that the price of bread has been fixed at Rs 3.90, while the actual cost of producing cost is around Rs 4.70. He emphasised that the current subsidy does not adequately cover the production costs and also expressed concern over the rising prices of diesel.
