Pre-budget consultations: Junior Minister meets with representatives of fishermen community
The Junior Minister of Finance, Mr Dhaneshwar Damry, met today in Port Louis, with representatives of the fishing community as part of ongoing consultations for the preparation of the 2026–2027 Budget. Discussions focused on addressing the challenges faced by fishermen and identifying practical and targeted solutions.
The representative of the Association des Pêcheurs de Roche Noires, Mr Sooress Awoter, called for the implementation of training and capacity-building programmes, a review of the bad weather allowance, and the provision of duty-free vehicles and other essential equipment for fishermen.
Meanwhile, Mrs Groodur Bibi Asmeen, representing Shear Water Offshore Fishing Cooperative Ltd, stated that proposals have been put forward for the development of landing facilities in the eastern region during adverse weather conditions, along with the provision of diesel subsidies for semi-industrial vessels.
