National awareness campaign on good nutritional practices launched
A National Awareness Campaign on Good Nutritional Practices, spanning from 08 October to 20 October 2024, an initiative of the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) organised under the Regional Support Programme for Food and Nutrition Security, was officially launched, yesterday, in Souillac, in presence of several stakeholders. Funded by the European Union, the campaign is implemented in partnership with the IOC and carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Wellness and the Ministry of Agro-Industry and Food Security through the Food and Agricultural Research and Extension Institute. The programme aims to enhance national and regional capacities in agri-food production, promote quality agricultural practices, and strengthen food safety and health security. To support these objectives, the awareness campaign consists of two main components: the first prioritises promoting breastfeeding and the nutrition of mothers and expectant mothers, while the second focuses on valorising and promoting local foods and their nutritional benefits. These initiatives work together to improve nutritional standards and foster sustainable agricultural development.
