Mauritius to Host Ocean Week 2026 to promote Sustainable Blue Economy
‘The Bridge to the Blue Future: Uniting Stakeholders for a Sustainable Ocean Economy’ is the theme of the Mauritius Ocean Week, which will be organised at the initiative of the Ministry of Agro-Industry, Food Security, Blue Economy and Fisheries, scheduled from 04 to 09 May 2026.
The programme will feature:
Les Assises de l’Océan (04–06 May 2026)
This forum will bring together a broad spectrum of stakeholders—including ocean science experts, academics, researchers, students, civil society representatives, non-governmental organisations, private sector operators, and fishers—to deliberate on current challenges and explore new opportunities in the blue economy sector.
In a bid to promote ocean literacy - particularly among youth and women - a series of side events is also on the agenda:
- Guided visits onboard MV Mauritius Trochetia, as well as open days at the Albion Fisheries Research Centre, the Mauritius Oceanography Institute, and the Mauritius Maritime Training Academy;
- Fashion and musical performances on the “Ocean” theme, organised in collaboration with NGOs and the fishing community, with a focus on reviving traditional Mauritian heritage;
- Introductory diving and snorkelling sessions at Blue Bay Marine Park;
- Radio programmes;
- Training and awareness sessions on the use of fishing nets, traditional fishing techniques, and ocean literacy; and
- Exhibitions featuring paintings and a seafood festival titled ‘Taste of the Ocean’.
