Minister Gunness reviews progress of infrastructure developments

The Minister of National Infrastructure, Mr Govindranath Gunness, accompanied by Officers of the Road Development Authority (RDA) and engineers effected site visits, yesterday, regarding the relocation and construction of parking facilities for Wastewater Management Authority (WMA) at La Brasserie as well as ongoing works for the upgrading of roadside drain at A10 Plaine Magnien Phase 1.

In a statement, Minister Gunness highlighted that for the past twenty-five years wastewater carriers belonging to the WMA have been stationed within a residential area and stressed the necessity to relocate these vehicles. He indicated that the presence of the lorries in residential area is detrimental to the health and well being of residents.

He indicated that a plot of land has already been identified along La Brasserie Road (B10) for the development of dedicated parking facilities for WMA vehicles. According to him, the relocation process is expected to be completed by this year itself.

Regarding the Phase 1 drainage project along the A10 at Plaine Magnien, Minister Gunness expressed satisfaction with the progress, noting that the works are currently 40% complete. Phase 1 consists of the construction of 1.2 km of drains of width 2.5 m and varying depth from 1.2 m to 2.5 m connecting to the existing drain along A10 Road from Plaine Magnien Football Ground to Motorway M1.

He added that a 2nd phase will be implemented to connect phase 1 to a safe point of discharge to ensure that there is no flooding on the Motorway M1 and the surrounding regions. Completion of Phase 1 is anticipated by the end of December.
