Vision 2050: Minister Jeetun meets Trade Unions Leaders
A consultation session on Vision 2050 with Trade
Unions leaders opened this morning in presence of the Minister of Financial
Services and Economic Planning, Dr (Mrs) Jyoti Jeetun, in Ebene.
In her address, the Minister spoke of the significance of Vision 2050 in ensuring that a long-term economic planning is rolled out to chart the country’s pathway to socioeconomic prosperity. “Through this national roadmap, we can better envision a sustainable, prosperous, and inclusive future of Mauritius for the next generations to come”, she said.
Dr Jeetun underpinned the importance of Vision 20250 in guiding investment for priority sectors and addressing key challenges such as the energy crisis, ageing population, declining population and shortage of labour; leveraging new economic pillars; revamping declining industries; fostering an inclusive society; and planning for human capital, training and investment in research and development.
Moreover, the Minister emphasised that the long-term vision is translated into actionable, 10-year National Development Plans and that strategic measures will be executed in the immediate term.
The Minister recalled that a participatory approach has been favoured to elaborate Vision 2050 to ensure a collective engagement of diverse stakeholders—citizens, the private sector, academia, and civil society. According to her, collecting the views of such stakeholders who are connected to the realities of the society, remains a valuable contribution to better grasp the issues to tackle.
