Beau Bassin–Rose Hill holds Regional Consultation on Mauritius’ long-term development under Vision 2050

The 10th in a series of Regional Consultations under Vision 2050 was held, yesterday, at the Municipal Council of Beau Bassin–Rose Hill.

The Minister of Financial Services and Economic Planning, Dr Jyoti Jeetun; the Junior Minister of Youth and Sports, Mrs Eileen Karen Lee Chin Foo Kune-Bacha; the Junior Minister of Tourism, Mr Jean Sydney Pierre; and the Mayor of the Municipal Council of Beau Bassin–Rose Hill, Mrs Gabriella Batour, were present.

The Consultation brought together a wide range of stakeholders from the region, including economic operators, municipal councillors, and representatives of non-Governmental Organisations. The session aimed to promote a forward-looking mindset and to gather collective aspirations for the socio-economic transformation of Mauritius.

Discussions focused on key priority areas shaping the country’s future, namely education, employment, healthcare, housing, transportation, food security, water supply, energy security, public safety and security, and the evolution of Mauritian society. These exchanges align with Vision 2050, a long-term national roadmap built on three main pillars: prosperity, sustainability and inclusion.

In her address, Dr Jeetun highlighted the significance of Vision 2050 as a consultative and inclusive initiative that brings together stakeholders from various sectors to reflect on the future of Mauritius. She noted that, while addressing current global and national challenges such as conflicts, energy and water issues, and an ageing population, it is equally essential to anticipate future needs. She stressed that many present-day challenges could have been mitigated through better long-term planning.

Minister Jeetun further reaffirmed Government’s commitment to transforming the country through Vision 2050, emphasising that its successful implementation will require sustained and coordinated efforts from both the public and private sectors.
