Mauritius to align civil aviation framework with international standards

Mauritius will accede, without reservation, to three international civil aviation instruments aimed at strengthening the safety and security of civil aviation and aligning the country with the latest international legal framework governing the aviation sector.

The three instruments are: the Convention on the Suppression of Unlawful Acts Relating to International Civil Aviation; the Protocol Supplementary to the Convention for the Suppression of Unlawful Seizure of Aircraft; and the Protocol to Amend the Convention on Offences and Certain Other Acts Committed on Board Aircraft.

These instruments provide a comprehensive framework for protecting international civil aviation against terrorism and in-flight disorder.

Their incorporation into domestic law will enable Mauritius to fulfil its obligations under the standards of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and reinforce its commitment to the safety and security of the global aviation system.

Accession to these instruments will also ensure that Mauritius' treaty obligations remain aligned with evolving international standards and recommended practices developed by the ICAO.
