Integrity and patriotism key to public service reforms

The importance of integrity, conviction and patriotism in advancing public service reforms was highlighted today by the Minister of Public Service and Administrative Reforms, Mr Lutchmanah Pentiah, in Port Louis.

In a statement following a meeting with Mr Shiv Khera, the internationally acclaimed motivational speaker, bestselling author and leadership coach, the Minister underlined the need for dedicated patriots committed to serving Mauritius. Citing Singapore and Rwanda as examples of efficient public administration, he called for similar determination and commitment to enable Mauritius to achieve comparable standards.

The Minister further indicated that a Public Sector Reform Act is being envisaged, while the Strategic Framework for Public Service and Administrative Reforms 2025–2029 has been prepared and is expected to be launched shortly.

He further announced that an international conference on public service administration and public finance would be held next week, with around 13 countries having expressed interest in participating. Minister Pentiah expressed hope that Mr Khera would contribute to the conference by sharing his expertise in support of Mauritius’ public service reform agenda.

For his part, Mr Khera said his visit to Mauritius was primarily to attend a conference organised by the Mauritius Institute of Directors, which brought together around 200 participants.

He underscored the importance of shared values in fostering professional relationships and effective collaboration. Welcoming his meeting with Minister Pentiah, he noted their common values and expressed interest in pursuing discussions to explore opportunities for future cooperation.

Following his meeting with the Minister, Mr Khera held discussions with senior officials of the Ministry of Public Service and Administrative Reforms. He shared his views on leadership excellence, fostering a high-performance culture, enhancing institutional resilience, empowering public officers and preparing the public service for future challenges.
