Mauritius targets stronger global climate action at COP31

Mauritius has finalised its National Position and delegation composition for the 31st Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP31) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), scheduled for November 2026 in Türkiye.

The National Position will guide Mauritius’ statements and participation in plenary sessions, Presidency events and technical negotiations. It covers key priorities, including climate change mitigation; adaptation and resilience; climate finance; oceans; agriculture and food security; just transition; technology; and the second Global Stocktake 2.

It is guided by key principles, including commitment to multilateralism and trust-building, keeping the 1.5°C temperature limit within reach, and increasing mitigation ambition and implementation, particularly by major emitters.

The National Position also calls for operationalising the Global Goal on Adaptation, with clear links to implementation support; predictable, accessible and increased climate finance, balanced equally between mitigation and adaptation; and replenishment of the financial mechanisms supporting the Paris Agreement and the UNFCCC, alongside full capitalisation of the Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage.
