MFRS and MPA officers trained to better tackle Chemical and Biological Risks
Twenty officers, comprising 16 officers from the Mauritius Fire and Rescue Service (MFRS) and four from the Port Emergency Services of the Mauritius Ports Authority (MPA), received certificates on Friday 9 October 2026, following the successful completion of the Chemical Risks Level 1 and 2 Training Programme. The certificate presentation ceremony was held at the La Capitainerie Building, Quay D, in Port Louis.
The three-week training programme was organised by the MFRS and the MPA in collaboration with France’s 1er Régiment d’Instruction et d’Intervention de la Sécurité Civile, with specialised training provided by French experts. It sought to enhance the knowledge, technical skills and operational capacity of participating officers, to respond safely and effectively to Chemical and Biological Risk intervention.
The participants followed both theoretical and practical training. During the practical exercises, the officers were able to apply the techniques acquired and reinforce their ability to operate in demanding and potentially hazardous environments.
The training programme focused on strengthening participants’ capacity to identify and assess risks associated with hazardous substances, determine appropriate protective measures and intervention procedures, and effectively manage incidents involving dangerous chemical products. Emphasis was also placed on the proper use of specialised protective and response equipment.
This session forms part of ongoing capacity-building initiatives aimed at strengthening emergency preparedness and ensuring an effective and coordinated response to incidents involving chemical risks within the port and maritime environment.
