Minister Jeetun calls for stronger financial cooperation with Africa

Strengthening financial services cooperation with Africa, improving regional connectivity and addressing the challenges facing family businesses and corporate enterprises were among the key issues highlighted by the Minister of Financial Services and Economic Planning, Dr Jyoti Jeetun, yesterday at the Africa Legacy Summit held at the InterContinental Resort Mauritius in Balaclava.

In her address, Minister Jeetun dwelt on Mauritius’ relations with the African continent and called for closer collaboration in the financial services sector to foster partnerships, facilitate investment and unlock new business opportunities. She pointed out Mauritius’ ambition to enhance air connectivity with Africa to strengthen economic ties and facilitate exchanges.

She emphasised that the country, as an African nation, recognises that its economic future is closely linked to the prosperity and development of the continent. According to her, it is thus imperative to reinforce cooperation with African countries and consolidate Mauritius’ position as a bridge between African markets and international investors.

Dr Jeetun further underlined the island’s potential to position itself as a gateway to Africa by continuing to earn the confidence of investors, families and international partners. This, she said, can be done by maintaining high standards of governance, professionalism and integrity.

Moreover, she dwelt on the importance of a dynamic, flexible and innovative financial services sector that upholds the regulatory standards and professional integrity underpinning Mauritius’ international reputation. She also stressed the need to maintain the country’s credibility in international financial markets.

Government, she reaffirmed, remains committed to working with industry stakeholders and African partners to ensure that Mauritius continues to be a trusted, competitive and forward-looking financial services hub.

The Summit, a flagship initiative led by Ocorian in partnership with KPMG, brings together business leaders and stakeholders from across Africa to discuss private wealth management, business sustainability and multi-generational wealth preservation.
