New integrated approach to strengthen domestic production and food security
Government will adopt a new integrated approach for the development and sustainable management of the pig sector in Mauritius, aimed at strengthening domestic production and food security while promoting modernisation, public health and environmental protection.
In this context, the services of a consultant will be enlisted to formulate recommendations for the implementation of the new approach and review the regulatory framework governing the sector.
The approach will focus on six strategic priorities, namely productivity and farm modernisation; animal health, biosecurity and traceability; environmental management; infrastructure, slaughtering, finance and processing; farmers’ support, skills and access to technology; and market development and value addition.
The recommendations of the consultant will serve to support an integrated framework for enhancing animal health and biosecurity, promoting environmentally sustainable practices and strengthening the overall resilience of the sector.
