Internal Medicine Specialists’ professional development
The continuous professional development of Internal Medicine Specialists was the focus of a conference organised by the Association of Internal Medicine on Saturday 3 October 2026 at the Caudan Arts Centre, Port Louis, in the presence of the Junior Minister of Health and Wellness, Mrs Anishta Babooram.
The conference covered key topics including liver transplantation, antibiotics and lymphoma. Distinctions and gifts were also presented to retired specialists in recognition of their distinguished careers.
Speaking at the event, Mrs Babooram highlighted the vital role of Internal Medicine Specialists, describing them as the backbone of 24/7 specialist care in Mauritius across both the public and private sectors. She referred to their expertise in managing complex and multi-system illnesses, including diabetes and its complications, severe exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, infectious diseases and hypertension.
The Junior Minister stressed the importance of continuous professional development to ensure that specialists remain abreast of the latest developments in their field. She also assured that the Ministry would support specialists in their efforts to continuously update their knowledge and skills.
Established in 2023, the Association of Internal Medicine brings together more than 50 members and plays an active role in supporting the professional development of specialists. Through training sessions led by experts from Mauritius and abroad, the Association provides members with opportunities to broaden their knowledge, develop their skills and stay abreast of the latest developments in Internal Medicine.
