Glayd’s Wilfrid reaches milestone 100th Birthday
An official celebration honouring the landmark 100th
birthday of Mrs Glayd’s Wilfrid was held on, 02 October 2026 in Albion, in the presence of the new centenarian’s family members. Born on 02 October 1926,
Mrs Wilfrid has officially joined the prestigious circle of Mauritian
centenarians.
To honour this milestone, the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity presented Mrs Wilfrid with a flower bouquet, a centenarian medal, an official certificate, a vacuum cleaner, and a cheque of Rs 26,203. Further recognition was extended by the National Solidarity Fund, which offered her a cheque of Rs 10,000, alongside special gifts from the Senior Citizens Council. Additionally, Mauritius Telecom honoured the centenarian by providing her with a Special Telephone Service.
Born in Port Louis, Mrs Wilfrid is the second child of the late Mr Salvador Fernand, who worked as a Station Manager, and the late Mrs Idette Aloyer, a dedicated housewife. She grew up in a large household of three daughters and four sons. While her four brothers passed away some years ago, her two sisters remain alive to share in this joyful family milestone.
Mrs Wilfrid completed her education up to Form 4 and went on to build a fulfilling career as a receptionist at the Harel Mallac Group of Companies. Known for taking immense pride in her profession, she was highly appreciated by colleagues and clients alike until her retirement at the age of 62.
She was married to Mr Marie Emmanuel Jean Wilfrid, a store officer, who passed away in February 1978 at the age of 52. Though the couple did not have children of their own, they poured their parental love into their 21 nieces and nephews.
The centenarian attributes her long life to her unwavering faith in God, a life filled with prayer, strong family ties, and deeply rooted family values.
