Regional consultative meeting: Government engages citizens in shaping Vision 2050
As part of the ongoing National Consultations on Vision 2050, a regional consultative meeting bringing together economic operators, non-governmental organisations, students, senior citizens and the civil society was held yesterday at the Sir Harilall Vaghjee Memorial Hall in Port Louis.
The event was attended by the Minister of Financial Services and Economic Planning, Dr Jyoti Jeetun; the Minister of Land Transport, Mr Osman Mahomed; the Minister of Gender Equality and Family Welfare, Mrs Arianne Navarre-Marie; and Lord Mayor of the Municipal City Council of Port Louis, Mr Aslam Adam Hossenally, amongst others.
These consultations are a long-term strategic planning exercise in line with Government Programme 2025-2029 to lay the foundations for uplifting the country from an upper-middle-income to a high-income country with an inclusive and sustainable agenda.
In her address, Minister Jeetun underscored that Vision 2050 will serve as a comprehensive roadmap providing a coherent and forward-looking policy framework aimed at fostering socio-economic transformation, long-term resilience and inclusive growth. These consultations reflect the aspiration of all segments of the population as regards shaping the future of Mauritius, she stated, while reassuring that the proposals will be considered by the Government.
Citing the example of Singapore and India, she highlighted the importance of preparedness and long-term planning in achieving sustainable national development. She further indicated that these consultative sessions will be carried out in different regions across the island to ensure broader participation in shaping the country’s socio-economic future.
Dr Jeetun also reiterated Government’s commitment to an inclusive approach in defining Vision 2050, ensuring that citizens contribute meaningfully to the nation’s progress.
