Cooperative Societies showcase Local Products at Sustainability Bazaar

The Ministry of Industry, SME and Cooperatives, through its Cooperatives Division, facilitated the participation of Cooperative Societies in a Sustainability Bazaar organised by Constance Le Chaland Hotel on Friday 25 September 2026. The fair was held on the premises of the hotel from 10h to 16h and was open to hotel guests and staff. The initiative provided local entrepreneurs with an opportunity to access the tourism market and promote Mauritian-made products.

The fair featured 12 stalls, seven of which were allocated to nine cooperators from seven Cooperative Societies. They showcased a diverse range of authentic Mauritian products, namely spices, vanilla, honey, handicrafts, souvenirs, jewellery, organic tisanes, eco-bags and textile products.

The initiative aimed to promote sustainable and locally made products, enhance their visibility and promote a culture of buying local, while providing Mauritian entrepreneurs with exposure to the hospitality and tourism sectors.

The event also contributed to raising awareness of the cooperative model of doing business. Interaction among participating Cooperative Societies and other entrepreneurs created opportunities for networking, exchange of ideas and potential collaboration. Some entrepreneurs also expressed interest in learning more about forming cooperatives to pool resources, strengthen their businesses and benefit from support services provided by the Cooperatives Division.

Participating cooperators welcomed the opportunity to showcase their products to a new clientele. Representatives of Maurihands Women Entrepreneurs Cooperative Society Ltd highlighted that the fair was a gateway to the tourism market, enabling them to establish business contacts and explore potential partnerships. According to representatives of Five Diamond Women Entrepreneurs Cooperative Society Ltd, the interaction with hotel guests helped them better understand customer preferences and gain confidence in promoting their jewellery products.

For her part, Mrs Sylva Francine of Saphire Women Entrepreneurs Cooperative Society Ltd rejoiced that the event provided an opportunity to depict her paintings to a new market segment and encouraged her to further develop and promote her art work. On his side, Mr A. Chinan of Plantation Vanille Multi-purpose Cooperative Society Ltd pointed out the opportunity to showcase Mauritian vanilla, promote local know-how and strengthen the visibility of the cooperative among customers seeking local, sustainable and authentic products.
