Réunion Island delegation visits SMF Headquarters

A delegation from Réunion Island, currently in Mauritius for the ninth Mauritius–Réunion Island Security Contact Group, conducted a working visit to the Special Mobile Force (SMF) Headquarters in Vacoas this morning.

The delegation was given an overview of the operational capabilities of various units of the Mauritius Police Force through live demonstrations and equipment presentations. The visit also provided an opportunity to present the capabilities of partner organisations, including the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) and the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA).

The programme featured live demonstrations highlighting specialised operational techniques and capabilities developed by various units of the Mauritius Police Force to address operational challenges. A demonstration was also conducted by the canine units of the Police Dog Unit and the MRA.

Equipment used by the Groupe d’Intervention de la Police Mauricienne, the Disaster Response Unit, the Explosive Handling Unit, the National Coast Guard, the Anti-Drug Smuggling Unit, the Crime Prevention Unit, the Traffic Branch, the FCC and the MRA was also presented to the delegation.

The bilateral engagement provided an opportunity for Mauritius and Réunion Island to share operational expertise and exchange on approaches to addressing common security challenges and enhancing cross-border cooperation.
