Mauritius intends to join the ‘Kigali +10 Declaration to Advance Global Atmospheric Protection’, a non-binding declaration that takes stock of progress achieved under the Montreal Protocol and its Kigali Amendment over the past decade and reaffirms a shared commitment and vision to strengthen future cooperation.
The Declaration calls for the full implementation of the Kigali Amendment through enhanced compliance, action against illegal trade mobilisation of finance and technology, strengthened institutional and technical capacities, and improved monitoring and reporting. It also promotes sustainable, energy-efficient and affordable cooling solutions, improved equipment management, innovation, measures to reduce cooling demand, and enhanced international cooperation.
Mauritius is currently implementing Phase I of its Kigali Implementation Plan, in line with the objectives of the Declaration. Joining the Declaration will further reaffirm the country’s commitment to protecting the ozone layer, reducing global warming and supporting the effective implementation of the Kigali Amendment.
