Mauritius completes its first Proliferation Financing National Risk Assessment
Mauritius has completed its first Proliferation Financing National Risk Assessment (PF NRA), with the country’s overall national Proliferation Financing (PF) risk assessed as Medium.
The assessment was undertaken to identify and assess the PF threats to which Mauritius may be exposed, as well as vulnerabilities that could be exploited for the financing of proliferation or the evasion of targeted financial sanctions. It also sought to develop recommendations based on the risks identified.
The assessment found that no PF cases or active PF groups had been identified in Mauritius. However, threats posed by United Nations Security Council-designated persons and entities were recognised.
Other indirect PF threats identified include those associated with ship-to-ship transfers, trade with high-risk jurisdictions, the procurement of dual-use items, the movement of persons from countries of proliferation concern, and the potential exploitation of virtual assets.
