Acting PM and French Ambassador discuss women’s protection

The French Ambassador to Mauritius, Mr Alexis Loyer, met today with the Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Gender Equality and Family Welfare, Mrs Marie Arianne Navarre-Marie, at her office in Port Louis to discuss bilateral cooperation and the protection of women.

Discussions covered various areas, including projects supported by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), notably the Lumin’îles project, a regional initiative focused on women’s economic empowerment, child protection and data exchange.

The exchange further addressed violence against women and femicide, as well as avenues for cooperation in preventing and addressing these issues.

The Ambassador also spoke about an upcoming visit by a Mauritian delegation to Réunion Island to learn about the “Mon Shérif” programme, which provides victims of domestic and physical violence with a discreet connected alert device linked to a smartphone application.

The visit will therefore provide an opportunity for Mauritius and Réunion Island to exchange experiences and share good practices in preventing and responding to violence against women.
