OHCHR support for human rights discussed

The Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Gender Equality and Family Welfare, Mrs Marie Arianne Navarre-Marie, received today in Port Louis the Regional Representative for Southern Africa at the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), Ms Abigail Noko.

The meeting provided an opportunity to reaffirm the OHCHR’s support for Mauritius in promoting and protecting human rights.

Speaking after the meeting, Ms Noko described the discussions as positive and expressed her appreciation for returning to Mauritius in her capacity as Regional Representative. The exchange, she stated, provided an opportunity to gain a better understanding of the country’s progress and challenges, as well as to identify potential areas for cooperation.

During her visit, Ms Noko is also expected to meet other Government representatives to exchange views on matters of mutual interest and explore opportunities for collaboration in the field of human rights.
