Mrs Goindamah Mooneyen joins the list of centenarians

Mrs Goindamah Mooneyen, born on 28 September 1926, joined the ranks of centenarians yesterday, during a ceremony organised by the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity at Jean Lebrun Multipurpose Hall, Les Salines in Port Louis.

The Junior Minister of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity, Mr Kuvalayan Kugan Parapen, as well as family members and other personalities were present.

As part of the celebrations, Mrs Mooneyen was presented with a flower bouquet, a centenarian medal, a certificate, a cheque of Rs 26,203, a Microwave Oven, and a Blender by the Ministry.

She also received a cheque of Rs 10,000 by the National Solidarity Fund, along with gifts from the Senior Citizens Council. She is additionally a beneficiary of the Special Telephone Service.

Mrs Mooneyen was civilly married to Mr Chapatee Goinsamy, with whom she had three children. She is a grandmother to seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

The centenarian likes watching TV and enjoys vegetarian dishes. She attributes her longevity to her faith in God and acknowledges the support of her family, while taking pride in the resilience and courage that have helped her overcome hardships throughout her life.
