Mrs Marie Liliane Pierrus celebrates her 100th birthday

Mrs Marie Liliane Pierrus, born on 21 September 1926, celebrated her 100ᵗʰ birthday on Saturday 26 September 2026 at Circonstance Sub Hall, Saint Pierre, surrounded by family members and friends.

The milestone was marked with an official ceremony organised by the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity. The Deputy Chief Government Whip, Mr Pynivel Venkatasami, and other personalities were present on the occasion.

To honour the centenarian, the Ministry presented Mrs Pierrus with a cheque of Rs 26,203, a bouquet, a centenarian medal, a certificate and a gift worth Rs 5000. She also received a cheque of Rs 10,000 from the National Solidarity Fund and gifts from the Senior Citizens Council.

Born in Moka, Mrs Pierrus was raised in a family of six children and attended school up to Grade 6. She was married to a tinsmith who passed away at the age of 67. Mrs Pierrus worked as maid after her marriage and remained professionally active till the age of 90. She has one child, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs Pierrus has some hearing and visual impairment and is assisted by her son and caregiver to move around. The centenarian attributes her longevity to her unwavering faith in God, her love for animals, her very active life and kindness.
