Mauritius and France discuss avenues to deepen bilateral cooperation

The newly appointed Ambassador of the French Republic to Mauritius, Mr Alexis Loyer, paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, this afternoon at the New Treasury Building in Port Louis. The meeting formed part of the Ambassador’s initial diplomatic engagements following his appointment.

The meeting provided an opportunity to reaffirm the longstanding ties of friendship between Mauritius and France and to exchange views on avenues to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.

In a statement following the meeting, Ambassador Loyer highlighted the unique and longstanding relationship between Mauritius and France, particularly in the fields of economic cooperation, education and culture.

The two countries share common values and principles and are committed to strengthening regional cooperation and promoting multilateralism. Ambassador Loyer also noted that Mauritius and France are members of several of the same international institutions, offering further opportunities for dialogue and collaboration on matters of common interest.

Referring to the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, Ambassador Loyer noted that Mauritius and France have common interests and shared positions on several areas of international cooperation, which could open up new avenues for collaboration in the near future.
