Minister Jeetun discusses strengthening Mauritius’ financial integrity and infrastructure

Financial integrity and the strengthening of Mauritius’ financial infrastructure were the focus of discussions between the Minister of Financial Services and Economic Planning, Dr Jyoti Jeetun, and the Senior Director and Head of the Centre on Economic and Financial Power (CEFP) at the Foundation for Defense of Democracies, Ms Elaine K. Dezenski, during a courtesy call in Ebène yesterday.

The Foundation for Defense of Democracies is a Washington, DC-based research institute focusing on national security and foreign policy. Ms Dezenski was accompanied, among others, by the Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy, Mr Craig Halbmaier.

In a statement following the meeting, Ms Elaine K. Dezenski said that talks centred on the opportunity to position Mauritius as a leading financial centre and a gateway to Africa and beyond.

In that context, Ms Dezensky indicated that, through the Mauritius Institute of Directors (MIoD), she would meet with representatives of banks and other institutions as well as members of the financial industry. The engagements would focus on various aspects of strengthening Mauritius’ financial system and enhancing its integrity, including consideration of geopolitical risks as the country continues to develop its financial infrastructure.
