Land Transport Minister participates in National Engineers Day 2026

The Minister of Land Transport, Mr Osman Mahomed, attended the Gala Dinner of the Institution of Engineers of Mauritius (IEM), held at the Gymkhana Club, Vacoas, on Saturday 12 September 2026, as part of the celebrations marking National Engineers Day 2026.

In his address as Chief Guest, Mr Mahomed paid tribute to the engineering profession and highlighted its fundamental role in the sustainable development and prosperity of Mauritius. Drawing on his own academic and professional experiences, as well as examples from Singapore, China and the United States, he emphasised the capacity of engineers to solve problems, build infrastructure and translate national development ambitions into concrete results.

He commended the IEM for its initiatives aimed at encouraging young people to enter the profession and particularly welcomed Mauritius becoming a Provisional Signatory to the Washington Accord, which he said would contribute to the international recognition and mobility of Mauritian engineering graduates.

Minister Mahomed paid tribute to the engineers who have contributed to the development of Mauritius and expressed confidence in the profession’s ability to help build the Mauritius of tomorrow. He also congratulated the IEM on the launch of its new journal and website, and extended his congratulations to all recipients of the Lifetime Achievement Awards and Fellow Membership Awards.

On that occasion, Minister Mahomed was conferred Fellow Membership of the Institution of Engineers of Mauritius, alongside three senior members of the profession, who were also honoured with Lifetime Achievement Awards.
