Camp de Masque State College remembers SSR’s vision and contribution

A ceremony commemorating the 126th birth anniversary of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam (SSR), Father of the Nation, was held yesterday at Camp de Masque State College in the presence of the Minister of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation, Dr Avinash Ramtohul. The ceremony brought together educators, students and other stakeholders to pay tribute to SSR’s legacy and contribution to the development of Mauritius.

A series of activities were organised to mark the occasion, including an exhibition showcasing SSR’s life and achievements, live painting sessions by students, a memorial talk and a sketch highlighting key aspects of his life and legacy.

Addressing the students, Minister Ramtohul underscored the importance of understanding SSR’s vision and leadership while fostering patriotism, responsible citizenship and national unity. He highlighted SSR’s contribution to the advancement of basic rights, social security, health and education, as well as to the foundations of Mauritius’ democratic institutions.

Referring to the country’s ongoing digital transformation, Dr Ramtohul noted that the modernisation of public services builds on these foundations, citing the KOREK app, which will also enable citizens to access a digital driving licence through their mobile devices.

He stressed that education remains key to creating opportunities and breaking cycles of poverty, and encouraged students to make the most of opportunities in education, innovation and digital transformation while embracing their responsibilities as future citizens.
