Hinduja Group Chairman meets PM Ramgoolam

The Chairperson of the Hinduja Group of Companies, India, Mr Ashok Parmanand Hinduja, met with the Prime Minister, Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, yesterday, at the New Treasury Building in Port Louis. He was accompanied by other members of the Hinduja Group of Companies.

In a statement following the meeting, Mr Ashok Hinduja said that the Group has various companies and holding structures in Mauritius with investments in India and global shareholders. He explained that their visit was also in connection with the Group’s Board meeting and Annual General Meeting scheduled for 18 September.

Mr Hinduja expressed the Group’s interest in exploring investment opportunities in Mauritius, particularly in manufacturing, electric vehicles and renewable energy. He referred to Switch Mobility, which has supplied 100 electric buses to Mauritius as a grant from the Government of India, and indicated the Group’s willingness to explore opportunities to provide additional electric buses, trucks and double-decker buses.

Discussions also focused on the health sector. Mr Hinduja stated that, following 75 years of experience with Hinduja Hospitals in India, the Group would be open to exploring management opportunities in Mauritius under the Hinduja Hospitals brand, as well as exchanges between Mauritian and Indian doctors for training and knowledge sharing.

For his part, the Head of Financial Services of the Hinduja Group of Companies, Mr Ajay Hinduja, underscored that discussions covered other areas for further expansion of the Group’s activities in Mauritius.

Also present, the Chief Executive Officer of Afrinex Exchange, Mr Thapelo Tsheole, highlighted the role of Mauritius as a platform connecting Indian and African investors. He said Afrinex had already established discussions and agreements with several countries and would continue to expand these linkages.
