Mr Gaffoor Kheedeer celebrates 100th birthday

Mr Gaffoor Kheedeer celebrated his 100th birthday on 16 September 2026 at a ceremony organised in Grand Bay by the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity.

The ceremony was attended by the Members of Parliament, Mr Ehsan Juman, Mr Nitish Sharma Beejan and Mr Rameshwar Etwareea; and other distinguished guests, who joined in honouring the centenarian.

On the occasion, Mr Kheedeer received a bouquet, a centenarian medal and certificate, an air fryer and a cheque of Rs 26,203 from the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity. He was also presented with a cheque of Rs 10,000 from the National Solidarity Fund, as well as gifts from the Senior Citizens Council.

Born to Mr Abdool Rahim Kheedeer, a labourer, and Mrs Ruhimun Choychoo, a housewife, Mr Kheedeer was one of five children. He studied up to Standard 6 and later worked as a labourer at Belle Vue Harel Sugar Estate.

He married Mrs Beebee Rahela Meerun in January 1966. The couple had seven children, comprising four sons and three daughters. Three of their sons have since passed away.

Described as gentle, discreet and dynamic, Mr Kheedeer enjoys watching television and listening to the radio. He has remained active and energetic throughout his life and attributes his longevity to his unwavering faith in God and regular prayers.

Apart from health conditions associated with old age, including hypertension and asthma, Mr Kheedeer has no major health issues.

Mr Kheedeer currently receives a Basic Retirement Pension of Rs 23,550, a Contributory Retirement Pension of Rs 1,457, a Severely Handicapped Allowance of Rs 3,500, Food Aid of Rs 353 and a Social Retirement Benefit of Rs 2,500 monthly from the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity.
