Norwegian Ambassador presents Letters of Credence to President Gokhool
The newly appointed Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway to Mauritius, Mr Egil Thorsas, presented his Credentials to the President of the Republic of Mauritius, Mr Dharam Gokhool, today at the State House in Réduit.
In a statement, Ambassador Thorsas highlighted that the meeting with President Gokhool was very cordial and welcoming, and focused on consolidating bilateral relations between Mauritius and Norway. He underscored that, despite the geographical distance, both countries share common priorities through extensive maritime zones and significant fishing potential.
He further emphasised Norway’s longstanding experience in monitoring Exclusive Economic Zones while reiterating his country’s support to Mauritius in strengthening its maritime surveillance capacity and combating illegal fishing.
Ambassador Thorsas also underlined the opportunities for enhanced economic cooperation, noting that Norwegian companies are exploring investment prospects in Mauritius. These include initiatives in renewable ocean energy, such as wave-generated electricity, as well as desalination and other sustainable ocean development projects.
The Norwegian Ambassador will reside in Maputo, Mozambique, where he already serves as the Ambassador-designate and Head of Mission. Prior to his appointment, he worked as Senior Advisor for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Oslo within the section responsible for Middle East and North Africa. He holds a Master’s Degree in International relations from Spain.24 March 2026
