Mauritius Vision 2050 charts the nation’s path towards transformative socio-economic progress

The Mauritius Vision 2050 Final Report sets out a long-term national strategic framework to guide the socio-economic transformation of the Republic of Mauritius over the next 25 years.

Vision 2050, developed following extensive national consultations, is anchored on three mutually reinforcing pillars, namely Prosperity, Sustainability and Inclusivity. The consultation process comprised 13 regional consultations across Mauritius and Rodrigues, 21 thematic consultations, as well as online and written submissions.

Citizens, economic operators, trade unions, academia, civil society, students, youth, public institutions, the diaspora and other stakeholders participated in the exercise, which was complemented by macroeconomic and sectoral analysis as well as international benchmarking.

At the heart of Vision 2050 is the ambition to grow the Mauritian economy to approximately USD 50 billion by 2050 under the ‘50 by 50’ objective. This is expected to be pursued through higher productivity and investment, the consolidation of existing economic strengths, a shift towards higher-value activities and the development of new growth sectors.

Eight strategic growth opportunities have been identified: financial and professional services; advanced manufacturing; tourism and hospitality; digital and ICT services; port and logistics; the broader ocean economy; high-value agriculture; and life sciences and pharmaceuticals.

Implementation of the Vision will be pursued through the National Development Plan 2035, sector strategies, medium-term planning and annual budgets for financial years 2027-2030.

A National Economic and Social Transformation Council will also be established to promote national dialogue and review progress, while a National Delivery and Transformation Unit will coordinate implementation across Ministries and public agencies and monitor agreed milestones and Key Performance Indicators.

A draft Ten-Point Implementation Plan for 2027-2030 will be further developed in consultation with line Ministries and relevant stakeholders, taking into account implementation costs, financing requirements and fiscal implications.
