New collaboration to advance specialised eye care
Mauritius is set to strengthen specialised ophthalmology healthcare services through structured collaboration with Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital in Chennai, India, following Cabinet’s agreement to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the hospital and the Ministry of Health and Wellness.
The proposed MoU aims to enhance specialised ophthalmology services in Mauritius while strengthening the capacity of Mauritian healthcare professionals.
Under the collaboration, capacity-building opportunities will be provided to local healthcare professionals, alongside technical assistance for the upgrading of ophthalmology facilities in Mauritius.
The arrangement will also facilitate access to advanced treatments that are currently not available in Mauritius and promote continuous medical education for healthcare professionals.
In addition, the MoU provides for streamlined referral services for Mauritian patients requiring specialised ophthalmic treatment.
Dr Agarwals Eye Hospital is one of the largest networks of eye hospitals in India and specialises in ophthalmic care. The network also has more than 14 hospitals across nine countries in Africa.
