MGI hosts Academic Colloquium on Artificial Intelligence and Socio-Emotional Intelligence

The Mahatma Gandhi Institute (MGI), through its Centre for Technology Enabled Learning (CTEL), organised an Academic Colloquium on “Artificial Intelligence and Socio-Emotional Intelligence: Transforming Teaching, Learning and Leadership in Higher Education”, on 10 September 2026, at the Subramania Bharati Lecture Theatre, MGI.

The colloquium brought together educators, academics and institutional leaders to explore the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in higher education and the importance of balancing technological advancement with human values, empathy, ethics and socio-emotional intelligence. The initiative forms part of MGI’s efforts to promote academic excellence, digital transformation and innovation in teaching and learning, while providing a platform for dialogue on emerging challenges and opportunities associated with AI.

Discussions focused on the integration of AI and socio-emotional intelligence in teaching, learning and institutional leadership, with particular emphasis on learner support, ethical considerations, human-centred education and the development of future-ready higher education institutions.

Present on the occasion, the Minister of Tertiary Education, Science and Research, Dr Kaviraj Sharma Sukon, highlighted the potential of AI as a supportive tool in the education sector. He referred to its applications in areas such as data analysis, prediction, application development and literature reviews, while stressing that AI should be used responsibly and ethically to enhance, rather than replace, human capabilities.

The Minister also commended CTEL for its initiatives and achievements, and emphasised the importance of collaboration and institutional partnerships in advancing innovation in the tertiary education sector.

On the occasion, Dr Sukon also presented Certificates of Participation to representatives of the administrative staff of MGI and the Rabindranath Tagore Institute (RTI) who successfully completed the “Artificial Intelligence in Administration” workshop organised by CTEL in June 2026.
