New crematorium inaugurated in Crève Cœur
A new public electric/LPG crematorium was inaugurated yesterday in Crève Cœur, with the facility expected to become operational within a week and serve several surrounding communities, including Les Mariannes, Terre Rouge, D’Épinay, Congomah, Notre Dame and other neighbouring areas.
The Minister of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity, Mr Ashok Kumar Subron; the Minister of Local Government, Mr Ranjiv Woochit; the Junior Minister of Tourism, Mrs Marie Anabelle Andelana Savabaddy; Members of Parliament, Messrs Mohamed Ehsan Juman and Louis Ludovic Michel Caserne; the Chairperson of the District Council of Pamplemousses, Mr Vedanand Totoo; and other dignitaries attended the inauguration ceremony.
In his inaugural speech, the Minister of Local Government thanked all stakeholders, including the residents of Crève Cœur and personnel of the District Council of Pamplemousses, for their contribution to the realisation of the cremator project. He stressed that regular maintenance would be key to ensuring that the crematorium remains operational and does not break down.
Moreover, Mr Woochit informed that the necessary repairs had been carried out on the 18 cremators that had broken down, of which 16 were now operational. He underlined the importance of modern electric/LPG cremators as compared to the use of wood for cremation, noting that they comply with environmental standards and are more practical, as they are not affected by adverse weather conditions.
According to the Minister, Government remained committed to ensuring that the population had access to essential public services and the infrastructure associated with them. He also mentioned several projects that had been completed, were nearing completion, were underway or were in the pipeline, including market fairs, mini-football pitches and crematoriums.
For their part, Minister Subron and Junior Minister Savabaddy highlighted the importance of residents, local authorities and Members of Parliament working together for the benefit of their respective regions. They also spoke of projects being implemented across the country.
