Activities to mark International Day of Older Persons 2026
In recognition of the contributions of older persons to
society and to highlight the issues affecting them, Government will organise a
series of activities to commemorate the 36th International Day of
Older Persons.
A national event, organised by the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity, will be held at the J&J Auditorium, Phoenix, on Thursday 01 October 2026, under the theme “The Age of Longevity – Rethinking Systems for Longer Lives”. The event will place particular emphasis on the launch of Intergenerational Solidarity Dialogues and Initiatives in Mauritius and will bring together representatives of Senior Citizens Associations, middle-aged persons and youth, students, Non-Governmental Organisations, among other stakeholders.
Through strategic interventions in various innovative areas, the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity will promote policies aimed at fostering a society where older persons can age with security, while younger generations inherit a stable, just, ecologically sustainable, cohesive and inclusive nation.
A workshop will also be organised on 17 September 2026 with young people and students to facilitate a more in-depth discussion on the theme.
