AGOA extended until 2028

The African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) has been extended until 31 December 2028, following the signing into law of H.R. 6500 by the President of the United States, Mr Donald J. Trump, on 2 September 2026. The legislation was overwhelmingly approved by the US House of Representatives on 01 September 2026, after having been passed by the US Senate on 8 August 2026.

Mauritius has regularly participated in public hearings and submitted written comments to the US authorities on the importance of AGOA. In May and July 2026, Mauritius made submissions to the Office of the United States Trade Representative, highlighting the significance of the renewal of AGOA for the socio-economic welfare of Mauritius and the wider Sub-Saharan African region.

Mauritius remains committed to working closely with the United States to further develop bilateral trade and investment relations, maximise the opportunities offered under AGOA, and promote export diversification for the benefit of Mauritian businesses and workers.
