Minister Dhananjay Ramful Supports Mauritian Student’s Academic Journey

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade, Mr Dhananjay Ramful, presented a sponsored airline ticket to Ms Widaad Oozeeraully in Port-Louis on Friday 04 September 2026, to support her upcoming tertiary studies in Türkiye. The Honorary Consul General of Türkiye, Mr Ashwani Sood, the General Manger of Turkish Airlines in Mauritius, Mr Ahmet Tursun, and the President of the Al-Shams Ladies Association, Mrs Shireen Motala, were also present on the occasion.

This collaborative effort of the Ministry, the Embassy and the Turkish Airlines, with the Al-Shams Ladies Association acting as facilitator, has secured full support for this deserving Mauritian student who comes from a financially hamstrung background to pursue her higher education in Türkiye. The assistance extended to the student covers her admission, visa processing, and fully sponsored travel provided by Turkish Airlines.

In a statement, the Minister highlighted that Mauritius and Turkey share excellent bilateral relations, noting that this partnership reflects a mutual commitment to advancing education for Mauritian students.

Minister Ramful further indicated that the Ministry with the collaboration of the Turkish Embassy, had successfully facilitated visa procedures, eliminating the requirement for students to travel to Madagascar and thereby saving them from additional expenses. He added that the Turkish Embassy is reviewing the request to permanently extend this facilitated this convenient visa facility to all Mauritian students moving to Türkiye.

Mr Ashwani Sood praised the seamless joint effort that secured full support for a deserving Mauritian student, noting that the initiative sets a powerful precedent for helping others in need. "This endeavour has shown us what can be achieved, and I remain fully committed to supporting future students through any challenges they may face," Mr Sood stated.
