Mr Fidele celebrates his 100th birthday

Mr France Luc Fidele joined the ranks of centenarians as he celebrated his 100th birthday at a ceremony organised by the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity on 05 September 2026 in Rose Hill.

Having turned 100 on 01 September 2026, Mr Fidele marked the remarkable milestone surrounded by family and loved ones. The Junior Minister of Health and Wellness, Mrs Anishta Babooram was also present at the event.

Mr Fidele was civilly married to Mrs Marie Gachienne Couronne, with whom he shared a life and raised six children. His family has since grown across generations, and he is now a proud grandfather of 11 grandchildren and a great-grandfather of six great-grandchildren.

As part of the birthday celebrations, he was presented with a flower bouquet, a centenarian medal and certificate, a cheque of Rs 26,203 and a gas plate by the Ministry. Mr Fidele was also presented with a cheque of Rs 10,000 by the National Solidarity Fund, along with gifts from the Senior Citizens Council. He is additionally a beneficiary of the Special Telephone Service.

The centenarian prefers non-vegetarian dishes and enjoys spending time with his family, whose regular presence and support contribute to his well-being.

He suffers from age-related debility and has lost his eyesight, but continues to receive monthly visits from his treating physician from the Ministry, ensuring that his health and well-being remain closely monitored.

Mr Fidele attributes his longevity to maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle and to his unwavering faith in God. He also acknowledges the care, love and dedication of his wife and children, who have remained a constant source of support and comfort throughout his old age.
