New Slip Lane linking Côte d’Or to M3 now operational

A new slip lane linking Côte d’Or Road (B48) to the M3 Motorway in the southbound direction is operational as from today, providing motorists with a direct and more efficient connection towards Ebène.

The Minister of National Infrastructure, Mr Govindranath Gunness, in presence of Member of Parliament, Mr Govinden Venkatasami; representatives of the Road Development Authority (RDA), and other stakeholders participated this afternoon in the launch of the slip lane.

The project, implemented by the RDA to the tune of Rs 24 million, comprises a 460-metre-long slip lane with a 1.5-metre-wide shoulder, drainage infrastructure, road markings, traffic signs, safety fences, guardrails and solar lighting.

The new slip lane is expected to ease traffic queuing along the B48, improve journey times and enhance traffic flow at the roundabout, particularly during peak hours, while reducing potential points of conflict between vehicles and improved road safety.

Minister Gunness pointed out the benefits of the project for motorists travelling from Quartier Militaire, Dubreuil and Midlands, who will now have direct access to the slip lane adding that the new infrastructure will contribute to a reduction of around 40 per cent in traffic congestion.

The Minister also spoke of the Hermitage Bypass, which provides an alternative route for motorists travelling from Belle Rive towards the M3 at Côte d’Or.

Mr Gunness further announced that a new slip lane is planned in the Valentina area, while several other major road infrastructure projects are in the pipeline as part of Government’s efforts to improve connectivity and increase traffic capacity in the region.

These include the upgrading of Côte d’Or Road (B48) from the M3 Motorway roundabout to the Hermitage Bypass; the extension of the Flic-en-Flac Bypass to link Cascavelle with Avenue Kestrel, and the forthcoming inauguration of the Beauchamp Bridge at Bel Ombre.

He also referred to consultations held this afternoon regarding the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) for the proposed M4 Motorway linking Forbach to Bel Air.
