NPCC: Participants apprised on Kaizen for resilient growth and enhanced productivity
A
half-day Masterclass on “Kaizen for Resilient Growth in Mauritius: Building
Productivity, Competitiveness and Innovation” was organised by the National
Productivity and Competitiveness Council (NPCC), in collaboration with the
Human Resource Development Council (HRDC), on 27 August 2026 at the Atal Bihari
Vajpayee Institute of Public Service and Innovation, Côte d’Or.
The Masterclass aimed at equipping participants with practical Kaizen tools and methodologies to address key challenges facing organisations, including labour shortages, rising operating costs, supply chain disruptions and intensifying global competition. The initiative also sought to strengthen long-term organisational resilience.
Participants were apprised on two key themes, namely “Kaizen and Mauritius’ Challenges” and “Innovation and Digital Transformation”, by a Japanese expert in Productivity and Kaizen, Mr Kakiuchi Yasunobu.
Speaking on the occasion, the Executive Director of the NPCC, Dr Vinaye Ancharaz, recalled that the NPCC is a certified Centre of Excellence in Kaizen under the Africa Kaizen Initiative. He stressed that this recognition positions the Council to lead and provide training in Kaizen, while acting as a bridge between international best practices and the realities of local enterprises.
According to Dr Ancharaz, Kaizen provides a proven and cost-effective approach to achieving sustainable productivity improvements across businesses and institutions, whether entrepreneurs, mid-market enterprises, public sector organisations or large corporations.
For his part, the Chairman of the NPCC, Mr Arshad Duymun, underscored the universality and relevance of Kaizen to the Mauritian economy. He described Kaizen as a culture of continuous improvement and called on stakeholders across all sectors to embrace the approach in order to enhance productivity, competitiveness and resilience.
He also acknowledged the partnership between the NPCC and HRDC in strengthening capacity building and facilitating access to expertise in the field.
The Masterclass forms part of broader efforts to promote Kaizen and productivity enhancement in Mauritius. In this context, the NPCC will host the Africa Kaizen Annual Conference on 26 and 27 October 2026, further reinforcing Mauritius’ growing role as a regional Centre of Excellence in Kaizen.
