Mauritius Hosts 23rd Annual WCO RILO ESA Meeting
The 23rd Annual Administrative Meeting for National
Contact Points of the World Customs Organisation Regional Intelligence Liaison
Office East and Southern Africa (WCO RILO ESA), kickstarted this morning at the
Integrated Customs Clearance Centre in
Plaine Magnien.
The three-day meeting is being hosted by the Mauritius Revenue Authority (MRA), bringing together 21 delegates from 11 RILO ESA member countries. The theme of this 23rd meeting is, “Collaboration & Intelligence-Led Vigilance: Our Commitment to a Safer Society”.
In his keynote address, the Financial Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Mr Anandsing Acharuz highlighted that the meeting marks a vital step in enhancing regional collaboration through intelligence sharing and underscores Mauritius' unwavering commitment to cross-border cooperation.
Mr Acharuz observed that the topics of discussion will address pressing global economic realities, directly supporting national and regional efforts to safeguard economies, reinforce border security, and facilitate trade. Effective intelligence sharing and information exchange, he stressed, are foundational to building a safer, more secure, and prosperous region.
The Financial Secretary described the meeting as instrumental to strengthening our collective security, through the trust that will be fostered, decisions to be made, and further strengthening of information channels.
Also speaking at the opening ceremony, the Director general of the MRA, Mr Rohit Ramnawaz underlined that the event's theme strongly reflects a collective commitment and shared responsibility toward safeguarding regional borders. He noted that countering today’s rapidly evolving security threats requires a proactive, agile, and vigilant stance, driven by intensive cross-border cooperation.
He pointed out that the sharing of intelligence at national, regional and international level is key to strengthen reinforcement action.
