Entrepreneurship Awareness Programme showcases facilities and incentives available to SMEs

A range of facilities and incentives available to Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) was showcased during an entrepreneurship awareness programme held, on 22 August 2026, at the Farmers Service Centre in Goodlands.

The programme forms part of a series of entrepreneurship awareness activities aimed at providing aspiring entrepreneurs with an opportunity to obtain first-hand information on the support available and to engage with stakeholders on the opportunities and challenges associated with developing a business.

SME packs were distributed to entrepreneurs from the northern region. The programme also featured testimonials from entrepreneurs sharing their experiences and insights.

The Minister of Education and Human Resource, Dr Mahend Gungapersad, along with Members of Parliament (MP), Mr Nitish Sharma Beejan, and Mr Rameshwar Etwareea, as well as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SME Mauritius Ltd, Mr Ravin Rampersad, were present.

Addressing participants, Minister Gungapersad encouraged entrepreneurs to make full use of the schemes and facilities available through SME Mauritius Ltd and to tap into the potential of the SME sector.

The Minister stressed that such awareness programme offers an important platform for entrepreneurs to better understand the facilities available to them and to pursue their business ambitions with greater confidence. He also emphasised the importance of women’s empowerment, urging them to become more autonomous in achieving their entrepreneurship goals.

Mr Beejan placed emphasis on developing value-added products and diversifying the range of goods produced locally. He underlined the need for SMEs to continuously explore new products in order to strengthen their position and contribute further to economic development.

For his part, Mr Etwareea called on aspiring entrepreneurs to take advantage of the entrepreneurship opportunities available through SME Mauritius Ltd, inviting them to make use of the support mechanisms.

As for the CEO of SME Mauritius Ltd, Mr Rampersad, he highlighted the role of the organisation in providing facilities and guidance to help entrepreneurs establish, develop and expand their businesses.
