Mrs L’Amoureux joins the ranks of centenarians

Mrs Rose Aima L’Amoureux, born on 10 August 1926, celebrated her 100ᵗʰ birthday on Saturday 15 August 2026 at her residence in Trou aux Biches, surrounded by family members and friends. The milestone was marked with an official ceremony organised by the Ministry of Social Integration, Social Security and National Solidarity in honour of the centenarian.

The Vice-Chairperson of the District Council of Pamplemousses, Mr Brian Ng Fuk Chong, was present on the occasion.

As part of the celebrations, the Ministry presented Mrs L’Amoureux with a cheque of Rs 26,203, a bouquet, a centenarian medal, a certificate and a digital air fryer. She also received a cheque of Rs 10,000 from the National Solidarity Fund, gifts from the Senior Citizens Council and a Special Telephone Service offered by Mauritius Telecom.

Born in Beau Champ, Mrs L’Amoureux was raised in a family of six children and is the only surviving sibling. Although she did not receive formal education, she spent much of her life working, first as a labourer and later as a watchman at a villa in Tamarin.

She married Mr Lucien Favori, who worked as a labourer at Britannia Sugar Estate. The couple had three children, comprising one son and two daughters, of whom only one daughter is still alive. Mrs L’Amoureux has 12 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.

The centenarian attributes her longevity to a life of hard work, being surrounded by family and maintaining a cheerful and friendly disposition.
