Government Grants to Continue for 46 RCEA Primary Schools

The Agreement between the Ministry of Education and Human Resource and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Port Louis will be renewed for the financial years 2025–2026, 2026–2027 and 2027–2028 to provide for the continued payment of Government grants to the 46 primary schools operating under the aegis of the Roman Catholic Education Authority (RCEA).

The renewal of the Agreement forms part of Government's continued commitment to the policy of free primary education by ensuring sustained financial support for the operation and management of the 46 RCEA primary schools.

Under the approved grant formula, Government funding will cover the operational costs of the schools, compensation for the use of private buildings under the control of the RCEA, as well as minor renovation and maintenance works, including the upkeep of classrooms and sanitary facilities.

The Agreement will also provide for a management grant to meet the costs incurred by the central administration of the 46 RCEA schools, as well as grants for pedagogical programmes.
