Minister Bachoo inaugurates Acute Care of the Elderly Wards at Victoria Hospital

The Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Anil Bachoo, inaugurated Acute Care of the Elderly (ACE) Wards yesterday at the Victoria Hospital in Candos.

These Wards are specialised hospital units dedicated to providing comprehensive and coordinated care to older patients suffering from acute illnesses. Operating through a multidisciplinary approach, the Wards aim to address the complex healthcare needs of elderly persons while promoting recovery, independence and quality of life.

The Minister of Agro-Industry, Food Security, Blue Economy and Fisheries, Dr Arvin Boolell; the Chief Government Whip, Mrs Stephanie Anquetil; the Junior Minister, Mrs Anishta Babooram; as well as other personalities were also present on the occasion.

In a statement, Minister Bachoo highlighted that the ACE Wards form part of the modernisation process of geriatric healthcare services in a bid to offer better services to the elderly. These services, he pointed out, will also be expanded across the remaining regional hospitals, that is Dr A.G. Jeetoo Hospital and Jawaharlal Nehru Hospital, to ensure that older citizens have equitable access to dignified, specialised, and person-centred healthcare.

He seized the opportunity to commend all hospital staff for their hard work and dedication so as to ensure that patients receive adequate treatment and care.

For his part, Minister Boolell underlined that Government is introducing a system that responds to the needs and expectations of an ageing population, with more than 285,000 people aged over 60 years. The wards, he added, will operate under a multidisciplinary model, designed to respond effectively to the complex medical conditions affecting older persons.

Dr Boolell moreover praised the initiative of the Ministry of Health and Wellness to ensure that patients receive quality care and are satisfied with the services provided.
